President Donald Trump has signed an executive order halting all foreign aid programs, including the allocation of funds to “unnecessary assistance programs.”
On Jan. 29, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt revealed that the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), a newly established task force led by tech mogul Elon Musk, and the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) “found that there was about to be 50 million taxpayer dollars that went out the door to fund condoms in Gaza.”
She added that this money, initially intended for Hamas, was allegedly used to manufacture bombs. Meaning, it is a “preposterous waste of taxpayer money.” (Related: STD infections rise to record levels among U.S. citizens thanks to the liberal ‘sexual revolution’ and hook-up apps.)
“We identified and stopped $50 million being sent to Gaza to buy condoms for Hamas,” Trump said. “They used them as a method of making bombs. How about that?”
The claim sparked widespread skepticism, particularly given the ongoing conflict in Gaza, where Israel has been waging a full-scale war for the past 15 months, severely limiting the entry of aid into the Palestinian enclave.
However, on Jan. 30, a user on X discovered a U.S. grant worth $83 million that was directed toward the prevention of sexually transmitted diseases in Gaza. This grant, however, referred to Gaza as a province in Mozambique, not the Palestinian territory. The Gaza province in Mozambique is a rural area with a population of just over one million people.
The grant was reportedly awarded to the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation, which works on various health programs in Mozambique. It’s unclear if this is the specific grant the Trump administration was referring to, given the existence of multiple Gazas around the world, including one within the United States.
The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) reports from 2007 to 2023 showed no records of condoms being shipped to the Gaza Strip. Dana Stroul, a former Pentagon official, said on X that USAID did not spend any money on the Gaza Strip in 2023.
The International Medical Corps (IMC), which has received over $68 million from USAID since the outbreak of the Israel-Hamas war in October 2023, also stated that “no government funding was used to procure or distribute condoms.”
IMC emphasized that the funds received have been used to support critical medical operations in Gaza, including the operation of two field hospitals that treat approximately 33,000 patients each month.
Todd Bernhardt, a spokesperson for the IMC, claimed that since January 2024, the organization “has provided healthcare to more than 383,000 civilians who had no other access to services or treatment, including performing about 11,000 surgeries, with one-third of those categorized as major or moderate procedures.”
